One climb, five camps

Pick your level and the lesson list follows it. Each level below shows its true share of the climb — and a first taste of its words.

  1. N5 · Lessons 1–19 · 718 words · 9% of the climb

Greetings, numbers, the words of daily life — where everyone starts.

    • 私 わたし watashi I, myself
    • 友達 ともだち tomodachi friend
    • 学校 がっこう gakkou a school
  2. N4 · Lessons 20–37 · 668 words · 8% of the climb

    • 夢 ゆめ yume a dream
    • 将来 しょうらい shourai (in the) future
  3. N3 · Lessons 38–93 · 2,139 words · 27% of the climb

    • 目的 もくてき mokuteki purpose, goal, aim
    • 解決 かいけつ kaiketsu settlement
    • 環境 かんきょう kankyou environment, circumstance
  4. N2 · Lessons 94–136 · 1,748 words · 22% of the climb

    • 主役 しゅやく shuyaku leading part
    • 制作 せいさく seisaku work (e.g., film, book)
  5. N1 · Lessons 137–201 · 2,699 words · 34% of the climb

Government, law, nuance. The summit — 2,699 words wide.

    • 理性 りせい risei reason, sense
    • 措置 そち sochi measure, step

Five ways into every lesson

A word rarely sticks the first time. Every lesson can be worked five ways, shallow to deep — and then the scoring starts.

  1. Vocab List

    Browse & hear all words

  2. Flashcards

Swipe right if you know it

  3. Train

    Swipe to the right answer

  4. Match

Pair each word with its meaning

  5. Learn

    Rebuild the reading from tiles

Then sit the test in miniature

Every lesson ends in a ladder of challenges: ten questions a rung, 80% to pass, three stars for a perfect run. The rungs harden as you climb — first you recognise the word, then you recall it, and near the top you only hear it, spoken aloud with nothing on screen. Pass a rung and the next one opens.

Sweep the opening lessons — three stars on every challenge — and the whole of N5 unlocks for good, free.
